Jeff Sessions was having a hard time this month, mainly because his relationship with President Trump has been falling apart this couple of weeks. This is because Sessions didn’t pay attention to few things that President Trump feels passionate about.

One of those things was his recusal from the Russia probe, in which Trump trusted him to be by his side. And now the investigation turned into a witch hunt.

Anon Comment:   The Obama administration’s $6 Billion secret — is actually the DOJ’s litigation slush fund — announced back in June, 2017.

A June 5 memo from Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the DOJ would no longer reach settlements requiring payouts to “third-party organizations” that were “neither victims nor parties” to the lawsuits. In a statement, Sessions said funds “should go first to the victims and then to the American people ― not to bankroll third-party special interest groups or the political friends” of the party in power.

“Unfortunately, in recent years the Department of Justice has sometimes required or encouraged defendants to make these payments to third parties as a condition of settlement,” Sessions said. “With this directive, we are ending this practice and ensuring that settlement funds are only used to compensate victims, redress harm, and punish and deter unlawful conduct.”

Jeff Sessions Kills DOJ Settlement Practice That Funded Community Organizations

YAHOO / SOURCE HUFF POST, by Ben Walsh, June 7, 2017

The Trump Justice Department is banning federal attorneys from reaching settlements in criminal and civil cases that direct defendants to give money to third-party organizations, a practice that Republicans criticized during the Obama administration.

DISCUSSIONIST — Kudos to Sessions for exposing the slush fund racket run by Holder and Lynch, where the DOJ required
massive donations to lefty groups in settlement of court cases. This was a scheme of Clinton proportions, except that THEY were not the monetary beneficiary here!

AG EYES BAM ‘SLUSH’ MONEY
Sessions probing $6B to leftist groups

New York Post, Aug 2017, By MARY KAY LINGE

“Attorney General Jeff Sessions is investigating up to $6 billion in legal settlement money that the Obama administration steered toward progressive causes and allies in leftwing advocacy groups.
A memo sent to US attorneys on July 28, published Friday by Breitbart News, ordered a review of a decade’s worth of payouts that Congressional Republicans have called a political slush fund.

Former Obama attorneys general Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch regularly arranged for major corporations to make large “donations” to left-leaning groups like UnidosUS — formerly the National Council of La Raza — and NeighborWorks America during settlement negotiations to end banking, environmental, civil-rights, and other federal lawsuits.

The groups getting the money were not victims in the cases or parties to the lawsuits, and Republicans say they had no proper claim to the cash. …..

Comments:  Third-party donations have been included in federal settlements since the 1970s.
But the Obama administration ramped up the practice as an endrun around the GOP-controlled House, which slashed federal funding for politically connected “housing counseling” groups in 2011.
Sessions ordered a stop to the strategy in June.

“Settlement funds should go first to the victims and then to the American people — not to . . . the political friends of whoever is in power,” Sessions said at the time

Sessions investigating ‘slush fund’ used by left-wing groups

Exclusive – Jeff Sessions Orders Look into ‘DOJ Slush Fund’ Payments to Leftists

BREITBART — by Ian Mason, 4 Aug 2017

An internal Department of Justice memorandum obtained by Breitbart News Friday indicates Attorney General Jeff Sessions is trying to get to the bottom of the DOJ “slush fund” for left-wing groups he dismantled in June.
The memo asks all components of the DOJ to recount the last ten years of payments made to non-governmental organizations as third parties in settlements and provide that information to Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand, the number three Justice official. These “cy pres” payments were a long-standing policy of having mostly corporate defendants, for example in a civil rights suit, agree to pay into charities as part of their settlement with the government to avoid further prosecution.

Comments:  Attorney General Sessions, however, put a stop to the payments unilaterally in June, issuing a department-wide memo prohibiting all payments to third parties in settlements not under three narrow exceptions, for example, genuine victim compensation. The announcement was widely heralded as a victory by conservatives.

The new memo, dated July 28, goes further, commanding DOJ attorneys to look back into the history of these settlements and report back every payment that would not meet the new standards laid down in June. Payments agreed to but not yet paid out are also to be identified. Every component is to be reported to Associate Attorney General Brand by the end of the month.

The exact long-term intent of this data collection effort could not be inferred from the memo, but the assembled information will give a much clearer picture of this practice that estimates claim may have given left-wing activists hundreds of millions of dollars wrenched from the hands of American corporations.
