The Two Sides of the Obama Presidency:
Was He Great or Was He the Greatest Failure?
- Mikel Jollett Verified account @Mikel_JollettIt’s not a question of perfect. People can argue about that. What can’t be argued is that he worked hard for people that weren’t like him. He hired very competent people in an attempt to solve problems. This basic competency + good intentions is ABSENT in Trump WH.

One great thing about Jollett was that he wasn’t connected to reality. And the tweets he posted weren’t accurate. And he didn’t always succeed but he tried to rewrite history for people he’d never even met.

- traid deGrom to the Dodgers, you hopeless shits!!! @vodkasnowflakeThis chart simplifies it. Please leave solid analysis to actual progressive journalists/activists who are 1000x more knowledgeable than you on this subject. You have a massive following and are doing a disservice.

There is always two side to every “truth” and here is just a few examples from the opposing side to the above tweet by Mikel Jollett that one of our writer had previously done. Don’t forget to go to John’s original post linked below for even more research on this topic.
So, you think you know Obama?
Written by John White February 8, 2017 (shared with written permission)
Barack Hussein Obama served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017.
But what ELSE do we know?
I am creating this article for one reason: to collect a whole lot of stuff about Obama into one place, so it can be shared as one link, and save me a lot of hassle laying all this out again and again.
Because what I am about to tell you here, not a lot of people know, and of those who do, even less know all of it.
I am a philosopher and truth campaigner. If everything about Obama was marvelous, I would be saying everything was marvelous. I might make my own judgements, of course, but the judgment of history I leave to the objective examination of rational truth.
However, the observer can never be truly detached from the world. Yes I did support Brexit. Yes I did support Trump.
So those who did not, those who love Obama deeply as a great POTUS, those who voted for Clinton, those who wanted to vote for Sanders, those who chose to vote Stein, or Johnson, but not Trump, have the usual partisan political reasons to suspect my motives. Fair enough.
Let me respond to that by pointing out, we play a little game of information, do we not? Where if the info comes from a particular source, people will not open it, will not look, and therefore not have to confront assessing if the information within is verifiable and factual?
And ALL newspapers print, if not overt Fake News, at least a decent bit of spin, from time to time. This isn’t about if a link is from Breibart or Daily Mail etc. Mostly you will see left wing sources for what I am about to present, but if it is a site you do not normally look at know this: I linked it because I cannot find the information on an “Obama friendly” source: but that does not make the information untrue and History WILL judge it accurately, even if that is politically difficult for some individuals to do today….
So lets explore what you most likely don’t know: because the MEDIA decided not to tell you!
To start with, lets have a biggie to kick us off…
1) The Osama Bin Laden Raid
“Osama bin Laden, the founder and head of the Islamist group Al-Qaeda, was killed in Pakistan on May 2, 2011” says the mainstream media coverage of the Osama raid, a major feather in Obama’s cap. Unfortunately, Osama Bin Laden, the most wanted man on the planet with the crime of 9/11 to answer for, was reported killed on the raid, whoops, and “out of respect to his religion”, fed to the sharks by being thrown into the Ocean by the Navy SEALS flying back from the mission… It’s ok though, they took a picture, so the story is absolutely true, horray! President Obama took care of Bin Laden!
Just one small problem, as the UK Guardian spoiled the fun by printing this: “Osama bin Laden corpse photo is fake”
An image apparently showing a dead Osama bin Laden broadcast on Pakistani television and picked up by British newspaper websites is a fake.
The bloodied image of a man with matted hair and a blank, half-opened eye has been circulating on the internet for the past two years. It was used on the front pages of the Mail, Times, Telegraph, Sun and Mirror websites, though swiftly removed after the fake was exposed on Twitter.
It appears the fake picture was initially published by the Middle East online newspaper themedialine.org on 29 April 2009, with a warning from the editor that it was “unable to ascertain whether the photo is genuine or not”.
So it turns out there wasn’t any proof Osama Bin Laden had been killed by Obama after all! #Fakenews!
Talking of fakes, I have always thought that Pentagon picture, supposed to be the “live” reaction to Osama getting shot, looks rather like an odd photo-shop too.
Not my fault… it just does!
With that as a warmup, lets get into more links…
2) Obama in 2012, American Death Squads in 2016: Counterpunch:
What would be best sign of a true dictatorship in this country? Most people would probably say it would be the government’s power to kill you, or lock you away forever in prison, without ever needing clear evidence that you are guilty of any crime, and without ever allowing you a day in court.
It is a sign of the times we live in that this most outrageous assault on the Constitution and all American citizens by President Obama hardly merits comment by the Press, and is totally ignored by most Obama supporters. After all, what’s the problem with a few death squads directed from Washington, so long as they kill the right people?
3) US May Be Guilty of War Crimes For Supporting and Enabling Saudi Mass Killings: Zerohedge:
As the US slams Russian bombing in Aleppo, accusing Putin of “crimes against humanity” and in the process sending US-Russian relations to levels not seen since the Cold War, it quietly sells billions in weapons and equipment to Saudi Arabia, a nation which as Hillary Clinton revealed in a “private setting” to the 2014 Jewish United Fund Advance & Major Gifts Dinner, has “exported more extreme ideology than any other place on earth over the course of the last 30 years.” It also happens to be one of the biggest state donors to the Clinton Foundation. Which may explain why as Reuters reported in an exclusive story today, the Obama administration went ahead with a $1.3 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia last year despite misgivings and warnings from some officials that the United States could be implicated in war crimes for supporting a Saudi-led air campaign in Yemen that has killed thousands of civilians.
4) Obama’s Drone War is a shameful part of his legacy: WashingtonPost:
There have long been policy, constitutional and moral questions about the drone program — all made more difficult to answer by the Obama administration’s refusal to even acknowledge the program until 2013. As Obama’s presidency comes to an end, we have stunning new details about how the program works — first released in October on the Intercept website, now updated and collected in the book “The Assassination Complex” by Jeremy Scahill and Intercept staffers. “The Assassination Complex” is in large part built around the revelations of an anonymous whistleblower who leaked documents about U.S. use of drones in Somalia, Libya and Afghanistan from 2011 to 2013. What he or she reveals further confirms the practical, legal and moral failings of Obama’s expanded drone war.
5) Death Squads Continue to Reign in Columbia: HuffingtonPost:
While it is remarkable that such death squad violence continues to haunt our hemisphere into the 21st century, what is even remarkable is that the U.S. government, which helped create the death squads to begin with, takes no responsibility for this violence, continues to fund the state and military which help perpetuate it and even fails to acknowledge that these death squads continue to exist. Of course, the U.S. media is quite complicit in this state of affairs given that it rarely if ever reports on it.
6) Jsoc: Obama’s secret assassins: Guardian:
The president has a clandestine network targeting a ‘kill list’ justified by secret laws. How is that different than a death squad?
JSoc morphs the secretive, unaccountable mercenary model of private military contracting, which Scahill identified in Blackwater: The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army, into a hybrid with the firepower and intelligence backup of our full state resources. The Hill reports that JSoc is now seeking more “flexibility” to expand its operations globally.
“JSoc operates with practically no accountability.”
7) Obama’s shocking interference in ISRAEL’s elections: JPost:
Israel had released a video purporting to show an undisclosed Iranian intercontinental ballistic missile site, and Netanyahu was concerned that the Obama Administration was on its way to signing an agreement with Iran while Israel was embroiled in elections. So he accepted Boehner’s invitation.
Once again, it was the right thing for the Israeli leader to do. But a furious Obama White House threatened “there would be a price” to pay for Bibi’s visit to Washington.
The price… The Obama presidential election team has set up camp in Tel Aviv with the mission to defeat Netanyahu in our upcoming election. The “Anyone but Bibi” mission is headed by Jeremy Bird, Obama’s National Field Director in his successful presidential campaigns.
Obama’s excuse for not meeting with Netanyahu in Washington was that he couldn’t be seen interfering in the Israeli election process. But the White House and the State Department is now exposed as seriously interfering in Israeli politics with the Obama team, financed by the Obama Administration, working to unseat Benjamin Netanyahu and his party in Israel’s upcoming election.
8) Report: White House tried to influence Israeli election as revenge against Netanyahu: Breitbart:
Sources in the Israeli government claim the White House tried to influence the recent election because it wanted “revenge” against Benjamin Netanyahu.
“The White House is driven by three main motives,” an unnamed senior official told the Times of Israel. “The first is revenge. The second is frustration: It’s no secret that they were involved in an attempt to bring down the Netanyahu government – something that we have clear knowledge of – and failed. The third is the administration’s attempt to divert attention from the negotiations with Iran to the Palestinian issue.”
9) Obama’s War on Whistle-blowers leaves administration insiders unscathed: Guardian:
Since Barack Obama entered the White House in 2009, his government has waged a war against whistleblowers and official leakers. On his watch, there have been eight prosecutions under the 1917 Espionage Act – more than double those under all previous presidents combined. All while serious offenses have had a blind eye reaction.
Panetta, the former CIA director and defense secretary who has been a fixture in the Democratic firmament for decades, today spends his retirement on his walnut farm on California’s Monterey peninsula. Had his name been more obscure, or his position lower, he might have found himself in a less hospitable locale after permitting the makers of the film Zero Dark Thirty access to details about the secret raid that killed Osama bin Laden in 2011.
Film-maker Mark Boal was permitted to attend a secret speech Panetta gave at CIA headquarters on 24 June 2011, less than two months after the raid. Military special operators were “all in uniform with name tapes” and seated at the front, according to a 2013 draft Pentagon inspector general report. Panetta’s speech – the text of which read “SECRET//NO FORN” – ie, not for release to foreigners – revealed “the unit that conducted the operation and identified the ground commander by name”.
As opposed to the favorable action received by General David Petraeus, the most celebrated army general of his generation who went on to become director of the CIA, is now out of legal trouble. Earlier this month, Petraeus pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor violation of classified information, ending a years-long official inquiry.
His plea deal involved his assent to a factual stipulation: in August 2011, Petraeus provided his biographer and mistress, Paula Broadwell, with notebooks containing “the identities of covert officers, war strategy, intelligence capabilities and mechanisms, diplomatic discussions, quotes and deliberate discussions from high-level National Security Council meetings and … the President”. He lied to FBI investigators in October 2012, stating that he never gave Broadwell any classified information.
Another favorable action was found in the former CIA director and former White House counter-terrorism and homeland security coordinator, John Brennan. Since joining Barack Obama’s first presidential campaign, he had been Obama’s liaison to the secret world of US intelligence. It rewarded Brennan tremendously: not only did he run the agency he served for decades, his position appeared secure even after he obstructed a Senate inquiry into Bush-era torture. Perhaps his most ironic aspect of that
obstruction was an attempt to get the Justice Department to investigate Senate staffers for allegedly removing classified information.
And lets not forget the most famous of the Obama era whistleblowers, Bradley/Chelsea Manning. The army intelligence analyst was serving a 35-year sentence for transferring to WikiLeaks a treasure trove of confidential US files to which he/she had access at a military base in Iraq. Manning was found guilty of violations of the Espionage Act, and computer crimes.
10) Obama’s gift to Donald Trump: A Policy of cracking down on journalists and their sources: TheIntercept:
The Obama administration has used the draconian 1917 Espionage Act to prosecute more leakers and whistleblowers than all previous administrations combined. Under the cover of the Espionage Act and other laws, the administration has secretly obtained the emails and phone records of various reporters, and declared one of them — James Rosen of Fox News — a potential “co-conspirator” with his government source. Another reporter, James Risen of the New York Times, faced a jail sentence unless he revealed a government source (which he refused to do).
It’s a maddening situation that becomes all the more maddening when you think of the lives of the leakers and whistleblowers the Department of Justice has ruined. Two of them, Jeffrey Sterling of the CIA and Stephen Kim of the State Department come to mind. A documentary about Kim, directed by Steve Maing and released by Field of Vision, powerfully shows the personal hell of living under Obama’s crackdown. After serving a prison sentence for discussing a classified report on North Korea with Fox’s James Rosen, Kim now finds it impossible to return to his old life. Although he has advanced degrees from Harvard and Yale, he cannot get a foreign policy job because of the taint of being a convicted leaker. Kim now describes himself as “homeless, penniless, family-less,” and adds, “I cannot go back to what I was. That person is gone.”
President Obama has set a precedent that says it’s okay to literally give a get-out-of-jail card to your friends.
11) Can we Destroy Civil Liberties? Yes we can!: Spiked:
Obama was a champion of detaining terror suspects without charge. In 2009 he signed executive orders mandating the closure of Guantanamo Bay within 12 months. These orders weren’t worth the paper they were written on. The so-called closure of Guantanamo involved transferring remaining detainees to prisons in their home countries or to US military or civilian prisons, rather than finally subjecting them to proper trials. Also in 2009 he called for a ‘preventative detention’ law that would allow the president to imprison people who had not been charged with a crime. This became reality under the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012, which Obama personally authorized. Section 1021 of that act affirmed the authority of the president ‘to detain any person, including a US citizen, without trial until the end of hostilities against international terrorist organizations’.
Obama took some of the worst illiberal excesses of the Bush administration and made them legal and ordinary. And he always hid behind a shield of secret bureaucracy.
12) Obama Leaves U.S.A $9,335,000,000,000 Deeper in Debt: CNSNews:
The increased debt incurred under Obama equals approximately $75,129 for every person in the United States who had a full-time job in December.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 124,248,000 people in the United States with full-time jobs in December.
When Obama took office on Jan. 20, 2009, the federal debt was $10,626,877,048,913.08.
As of the close of business January 18, 2017, it was $19,961,467,137,973.64.
13) 100 Ways Obama is just like George Bush: HumbleLibertarian:
The election of President Obama was in no small part, a referendum on the administration of George W. Bush, and his victory was interpreted as a sound rebuke to eight years of open ended warfare, a vast and growing police state, the destruction of civil liberties, disregard for the Constitution, unchecked executive power, lies and broken promises, hypocrisy and arrogance, a lack of transparency in government, out-of-control federal spending, fever-pitch fearmongering, rampant corruption, and some really stupid gaffes. But what have we gotten instead?
More of the same. A LOT more of the same. In fact, every negative aspect of the Bush Administration has come back with a vengeance in the presidency of Barack H. Obama. Everything the American people detested so strongly about Bush has not only characterized the presidency of his successor, it’s gotten much worse.
Now let’s all be honest here. It’s not a period in office immune from serious criticism, is it?
Right that’s it from me… so much I could say about all of this, but that’s not the point: its about presenting it to you so YOU can look at it.
